OTC welcomed a 1981 ODTI (Ohio Diesel Technical Institute) alum to campus. Al Black stopped by on his way to the NHRA Nationals at Summit Raceway Park. Black is a crew member for Finke Equipment that races a top fuel alcohol dragster. Black is from Albany, New York and figured he was this close to OTC, he should stop by and see what has changed since he was last here over 41 years ago! Black toured the campus and spoke with the grandsons of Julius Brenner. Many, many stories were shared about his experience as a student, especially the 6am dorm inspections which were at that time located on the campus of Case Western Reserve. Black even looked through a treasure trove of black and white photos of former ODTI staff and instructors. After his 1981 graduation from ODTI Black worked for Amtrack for 38 years. “I owe everything I have to this school,” Black said several times during his visit. He has had a very successful career in the diesel and transportation industry and has many fond memories of his training and the relationships he made here in Cleveland. We are so appreciative of our alumni and welcome you to visit the campus if you are in the Cleveland area.
