OTC extends congratulations to Dawite Sisaye of our Welding & Fabrication Technology program as our Student of the Month. Sisaye is originally from Ethiopia, Africa and has been in the United States since 2013. Learning a new language was a challenge. Getting a place to live and finding a job, also a challenge – especially when his English wasn’t the best.
He says he had a lot of friends here who helped him make that very difficult cultural transition and acclimate into a new country and way of life. While living in Africa he did a little welding, and found that he liked it and thought he should pursue more training. Sisaye is aware of the opportunities available in the welding industry for a great career in which he could support himself and his family.
Having made the decision to make his career in the skilled welding trade, he researched online all of his welding training options. Sisaye’s research led him here to Cleveland, Ohio and Ohio Technical College. Sisaye is graduating next month and says after 12 months of welding training here at OTC learning a skill and a trade he knew very little about, he feels confident he can go anywhere and complete the tasks assigned to him.
Sisaye has overcome many obstacles; leaving his native country, learning a new language, gaining a valuable skill he can use anywhere in the world, and graduating from college is a great list of accomplishments in just two years. After graduation he plans on heading to Pennsylvania to work as a welder.
OTC congratulates Dawite on his accomplishments.
