One of Ohio Technical College’s newly minted alumni got a phone call from Kalitta Motorsports that made his dream come true. Cody Weigand is the newest member of Kalitta Motorsports and OTC’s sixth recent graduate to join an NHRA race team.
“I’m so excited. The past few days after that phone call were a total blur of activity. Just days after graduation, I had to resign from both of my jobs, pack up my apartment, put most of my stuff in storage and get to Michigan ASAP.” Cody took OTC’s Auto-Diesel program at the urging of his parents, but always hoped to one day work on race cars.
“Auto Diesel was a good compromise, but my passion was always with racing.” Cody graduated with perfect attendance, and made OTC’s Honor Roll five times. “I’ve been working hard the past three months networking, and getting my resume out there."
Kalitta was here on campus two weeks before graduation looking to hire three students, one immediately. Cody was ready to go mobile and qualified for the career, so he got the call to join the team. Cody was back in Cleveland over the July 4th holiday at the NHRA Nationals working for funny car driver Alexis DeJoria of the Kalitta race team.
