Diesel Service Technicians and Mechanics inspect, repair, or overhaul buses, trucks, and anything else with a diesel engine. If you like working with your hands, are interested in repairing and troubleshooting engines and are looking to get into a satisfying career you enjoy, training as a Diesel Service Technician could be an excellent fit.

Ohio Technical College is not just another basic diesel mechanic school. We offer valuable hands-on Diesel Technician training with our specialized ASE Master Diesel Instructors in our 18-month signature program. We then help enhance your skills with our 3-month Generator Power Systems program and/or the opportunity for you to get your CDL license so you can road test what you repair.

Career Opportunities

OTC offers both Diploma and Associate Degree programs in Diesel Equipment Technology and offers a specialized curriculum, providing you with the hands-on training, technical skills and practical experience it takes to start a great career. Professionals with training in this area may pursue a variety of career options, including:

Training in this program is hands-on, using diesel training aids from: Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar, Eaton and many more. In fact, all diesel students will have a chance to go through Eaton Roadranger product training.

Successful graduates receive full Career Services including resume skills training, networking assistance, referrals and other support factors designed to help bridge the gap between training and employment. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify.

"I chose the collision repair program because I already had some experience in high school. I enjoyed it there and wanted to continue training and learning new skills and techniques. Making a career out of collision is unique in that it is never the same day every day. Each vehicle is unique, and the damage it sustains and that needs repair is always different. As far as highlights go, I would say the tools are pretty cool. I’ve been introduced to so many cool tools that will make the job go quicker and the repair smoother. Learning how to use a new tool is always a highlight of any training module. After graduation I will be back at OTC for a little while. I’m going to re-take a few paining classes. I have a local job here with a company called DataScan, so I’m not in a big hurry to get back home just yet."
