Ohio Technical College's Diesel Equipment training program takes delivery of new vehicles.
It’s getting crowded in here - in a good way. OTC has added to their fleet of semi trucks to now include a wider variety of full-sized vehicles for students to train on. Ohio Technical College started as Ohio Diesel Tech 45 years ago and remains one of the stalwarts in the country as a premier diesel school providing training for students worldwide.
“We went through our inventory at the end of last year and got rid of some older models to make room for these newer ones,” says Mike Manocchio, Director of the Diesel Equipment program at Ohio Technical College. OTC has received three Volvo’s and two International semi trucks so far that bring with them a Series 60 Detroit Diesel, two Cummins engines, a Cummins ISX and a Volvo D12 engine with advanced emission controls.
All will be used in various modules for training for OTC diesel and auto-diesel program students. “Technology is changing so rapidly on these vehicles,” says Manocchio, “We need to make sure we are providing the right training aids for students to be competitive and even have the advantage when it comes to placement after graduation.”
What is big in the industry right now is EGR valves and emission control systems. “These vehicles will serve as training in basic engine, advanced engine, automatic transmissions, brakes and steering and suspension,” says Manocchio.
These are just the start as more equipment is expected over the next several weeks as the program expands to meet industry's growing demand for diesel technician training.
